Burraco and charity: an unbreakable bond

Burraco, like few other card games in the world, despite its “age”, continues to enthuse and entertain a great number of people. It is no coincidence that the number of Burraco players throughout Italy continues to grow, since its spread in around the 1940s. There are also many famous personalities who are passionate about Burraco: Katia Ricciarelli and the late Luciano Pavarotti are among them.

Every year in Italy various Burraco tournaments are organised, some purely amateur and others with a wider reach, such as those promoted by various amateur associations. Sometimes, however, Burraco also becomes an opportunity to do good: in this case we are referring to the various Burraco tournaments often organised by associations such as Lions Club and Rotary.

Burraco thus becomes an opportunity to bring enthusiasts together and do good, as well as to raise awareness of the important theme of solidarity. The many organising associations, constantly active in the field of charity work and in service of social issues, each year intend to highlight the significance of acts of solidarity.

Education in solidarity means internalising fundamental principles for acting consciously in everyday life. Burraco represents the perfect game for renewing a strong sense of brotherhood and responsibility towards others.

Throughout Italy, thanks to the work of some associations, Burraco is the setting for bringing together many game enthusiasts who at the same time wish to contribute materially to charitable activities.

To take part in the various charity Burraco tournaments, payment of a participation fee is usually required. The proceeds are donated, depending on the case, to humanitarian foundations, scientific research, local institutions or in support of the most vulnerable groups and categories in difficulty.

Thanks to the various editions of charity Burraco tournaments, numerous solidarity projects have been carried forward. Funds have been raised for scientific research into paediatric neuroblastoma, for Caritas, for the Italian Association for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, for soup kitchens, family homes and many other charitable events.

During the various Burraco tournaments the top-placed pairs and those who have achieved the best scores in a single match are usually awarded prizes. There is no shortage of lavish buffets, prizes and gifts offered by sponsors joining the initiative.

A simple card game such as Burraco thus manages to unite all participants in a single feeling of solidarity, with the aim of offering material help to the community. Thanks also to Burraco, the living conditions of many ill people, elderly people, the unemployed and all those who do not have the means to live with dignity are improved.
