Burraco with 5 players: the rules of the game

Among the various Burraco game possibilities, there is also the option of playing with five participants. This type of game, given the high number of players, requires the use of 162 cards - specifically, three decks of 54 cards.

It goes without saying that play would not be possible with fewer cards, as they would not be sufficient and the game would not be properly playable.

In 5-player Burraco, the rules are a mix between the rules of classic Burraco and those of 3-player Burraco.

Course of the game and point counting

To start the game, the dealer proceeds to distribute eleven cards to each player. The player to their right will then form the pozzetti, which in this case will be three: one of eighteen cards and the other two of eleven cards each.

All five players will initially approach the game playing individually. When the first participant manages to exhaust their initial 11 cards, they will gain access to the pozzetto formed by 18 cards. At that point the other participants will ally in pairs, in an alternating formation around the table relative to the player holding the 18-card pozzetto.

The game continues with two pairs and a single player as the main protagonists. Play will continue until one pair or the single player exhausts the cards in their pozzetto, having naturally already achieved a Burraco.

For point counting: the single player will count all the points accumulated, which belong to them alone; the pairs will share the points earned between them.

The game ends when one of the players reaches 1,000 points. Alternatively, upon reaching 1,000 points the participants may play a final game where every player plays for themselves without alliances: 11 cards will be dealt to each and 5 pozzetti of 11 cards formed, and whoever wins this final game is the overall winner.

Burraco: a multifaceted and highly strategic game

The game of Burraco is very varied in that it offers the possibility of playing with different formations (two, three, four, five players) and is certainly a pleasant and entertaining way to spend afternoons or evenings in company.

Despite the different format, the style of play always remains the same. These adjustments to the rules were introduced to make the game playable with five players, in a way that balances the game for every individual player.

A mix between a singles game that can in some cases become a pairs strategy: very dynamic and different from hand to hand. In some cases you will be able to focus on your own game, while in other hands you will need to be good at cooperating with your partners. The fun is guaranteed and there will be no shortage of plot twists.
