History of Burraco: origins and evolution
In recent years Burraco has won over an ever-growing audience, becoming one of the favourite card games of players of all ages. Burraco is thought to have originated in Latin America (more precisely, Uruguay is often mentioned), during the 1940s, as a variant of canasta. After the war it spread throughout Europe, eventually reaching Italy, initially in the southern part of the peninsula.
Initially Burraco was played mainly by women as a pastime with friends, but thanks to word of mouth the card game went viral and the first tournaments began in bars and clubs. The first Burraco games did not follow precise rules, which led to the founding of Fibur (Federazione Italiana Burraco - Italian Burraco Federation), which drew up precise and structured regulations to standardise all tournaments.
Burraco became so famous that more and more people developed a passion for it and began to participate in the many tournaments organised throughout Italy and across the world. With the advent of the internet, Burraco spread rapidly and dedicated applications and platforms appeared, where enthusiasts could compete with one another and take part in online pair or multiplayer tournaments.
Burraco online
The game now captivates thousands of players of all ages (including VIPs) and the tournaments organised by the federation and private clubs have multiplied, often for charitable purposes. Thanks to the internet, Burraco enthusiasts can finally play at any time, comfortably from home, with players from all over the world.
The possibility of taking part in online tournaments at any time of day and of facing new challenges continuously has contributed to the emergence of a great many dedicated Burraco online platforms. Burraco online sites and applications engage users with the possibility of earning prizes, bonuses and climbing the rankings, sharing their results.
Online, players not only compete in the standard version of the game but also take part in tournaments with 2, 4 or more players. Online Burraco is an opportunity to meet new people and discover new curiosities about this entertaining card game. It is also good practice for refining one's game strategies and becoming a professional.
The Andromeda and Cassiopea variants
Two of the most famous variants of the Burraco game are called Andromeda and Cassiopea and relate mainly to pair play.
The Andromeda version of Burraco involves a different type of closing compared to the standard game. To be able to close, a player must have accessed the pozzetto and formed at least one Burraco, if one of the pair's players has only one card in hand that is not a joker or pinella.
The Cassiopea version is more complex: to be able to close the game it is necessary for both members of the pair to have no cards in hand. Closing can only occur if three specific conditions are met: having no cards in hand, if one of the two is left with a single card that is not a pinella or joker, or if the players' cards form a pair or a sequence.
